Please reflect on the current economic and political environment in Jefferson County. We continue public discourse and political debate on the state of our schools and the reported reputation of our declining educational system posing a great risk to the future growth and development of this county -a critical issue to be sure , deserving of public opinion and debate.
However, the actions taken in the signing of the ’Confidentiality Agreement’ enjoined by Norfolk Southern and a few county officials, was conducted without the public entitlement of transparency. Taxpayers became unknowingly committed to the financial responsibility of the Intermodal project , without public notice or public input, opinion or debate.
On the importance and well being for the future growth and prosperity of our county, separating the issues whether to invest in our schools or to invest in the Intermodal rail yard for a profitable and private corporation- in the words of a great modern philosopher, “Schools or Rails ?
