Standing Up for What’s Right, Today and Tomorrow…
We are concerned citizens opposed to the Norfolk Southern Intermodal rail and truck yard site proposed for New Market. This website is dedicated to revealing vital information about critical issues pertinent to the rail yard proposal and we are committed to make this information available to every interested and concerned citizen in Jefferson County Tennessee.
We support growth and progress in Jefferson County through long term and balanced planning to achieve sustainable benefits for the whole of the county and every person that lives and works here. We support the hard working men and women who have made their life’s investment in this county. Many are now threatened with the possibility of diminished property values, degradation of their communities and endangering the health and welfare of their families due to the far reaching effects of the proposed rail and truck yard.
We are opposed to information being withheld on the Intermodal proposal and we believe citizens are entitled to full disclosure about this project and most importantly, how it will affect our lives, today and tomorrow. Communities across the country are faced with the same threat of rail and truck yard projects cloaked by similar circumstances as the proposed project in New Market. We are in contact with civic groups dealing with like scenarios, exchanging and comparing collected data about the challenges involving the proposals, Norfolk Southern Corporation, involvement of the local officials and our communities. We feel a responsibility and obligation to share our findings with the people of Jefferson County.
Our sincere intent is to separate fact from fiction as we navigate this path of learning together.
We are disheartened by the apparent lack of compassion Norfolk Southern Railroad exhibits in their decision of the site selection in New Market. We understand the economic principals of the Intermodal transit concept and the NSRC Crescent Corridor project. However, we strongly urge the honest consideration of alternate sites which are available for the Intermodal development, providing the same end result for the Corporation. With relocation of the site selection, Norfolk Southern Corporation affirms a concern for humanity, will not cause the devastation of pristine farmland or create any additional pollution in a non-attainment area and acknowledges a respect for established communities and the people who live there.
